How do our physical bodies perceive and navigate an urban environment filled with rapidly shifting roads, subway interchanges, and constantly updating digital signs? Pictos and Pitwall, a solo exhibition by Seeun Kim at Kukje Gallery Seoul K2, translates the sensory responses of the human body to urban systems into compelling painterly form.

Presented across Exhibition Hall K2 on Samcheong-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul, this exhibition is completely free to visit. Spanning two interior gallery levels and extending outward into an open-air courtyard, the presentation showcases new paintings and monumental architectural installations.

Translating Urban Systems and Bodily Sensation

The exhibition title Pictos and Pitwall originates from two core concepts. The term “pit wall” denotes the mission control center in motorsport racing where engineers monitor real-time track data, analyze split-second developments, and communicate competitive strategy. “Picto” refers to pictograms—concise visual symbols designed to transmit multifaceted information at a single glance.

Artist Seeun Kim explores how individuals physically and psychologically adapt to urban mechanisms that update incessantly, independent of the pace of human perception. Her 2026 solo presentation occupies the first and second floors of Kukje Gallery Seoul K2 as well as its outdoor courtyard, filling the space with paintings and aluminum murals that probe this dynamic friction between structural systems and bodily sensation.

Three Key Highlights to Explore in the Galleries

First, observe how the racing command center pit wall and visual pictograms serve as metaphors for reinterpreting urban networks. Kim translates these rigid operational frameworks into rich painterly compositions shaped by the physical gestures of the painting body.

Second, follow the spatial journey that connects the indoor galleries on the first and second floors of K2 with the outdoor courtyard. The exhibition flow expands from two-dimensional canvas works into architectural, three-dimensional aluminum murals installed against exterior walls.

Third, examine the artist’s reinterpretations of urban transit infrastructure, including Oksu Station, airport overpasses, and tunnels. Kim reconstructs these recognizable transit environments through her distinctive, gestural brushwork and layered spatial compositions.

Practical Tips Before Your Visit

Kukje Gallery Seoul K2 operates year-round with no scheduled closing days, and entry is completely free. However, closing times vary depending on the day of the week: galleries welcome visitors until 6:00 PM from Monday to Saturday, but close at 5:00 PM on Sundays and public holidays. Be sure to check the operating hours before arriving.

Because the exhibition spans both the interior first and second levels and the adjoining outdoor courtyard, visitors are encouraged to step outside into the courtyard to experience the aluminum murals in open daylight.
