A contemplative painting exhibition exploring the seasonal passage of time and luminous reflections has opened high above eastern Seoul. BGN Gallery Jamsil Lotte Tower presents a solo exhibition by contemporary painter Lim Eunjung, titled Light, in Rhythm (빛결, 그 리듬). Running through September 29, 2026, the exhibition records the gentle cadences of nature on canvas.

Through refined brushwork and tactile layering, the artist translates fleeting shimmering water surfaces and cumulative natural cycles into an elegant pictorial vocabulary, showcasing both her celebrated vine motifs and new water light compositions.

Traces of Time Recorded Across Canvas Surfaces

Situated on the 11th floor of Lotte World Tower in Songpa-gu, BGN Gallery operates as an accessible cultural space spotlighting prominent contemporary painters. In this presentation, the gallery surveys the evolving artistic trajectory of Lim Eunjung, who has long meditated on the slow accumulation of time through the organic growth and decay of climbing vines.

While her earlier Vine series captured growth across changing seasons, her latest Water Light works shift gaze toward shimmering water surfaces where sunlight gathers and disperses. By orchestrating lines, planes, and overlapping dots with iridescent pigments, Lim creates dimensional surfaces that react dynamically to ambient lighting and the viewer’s movement through the gallery.

Three Key Viewing Points to Observe in the Gallery

Visitors spending time with the works will discover several compelling pictorial techniques:

1. The Fluid Energy of the Water Light Series

Examine how the artist renders fleeting ripples and watery highlights. Rather than reproducing photographic realism, repetitive rhythmic marks create an illusion of gentle aquatic motion on flat linen.

2. Harmonious Continuity with the Vine Series

Contrast the temporal depth of the climbing vine paintings with the transient reflections in the water paintings. Both bodies of work reveal the artist’s unwavering commitment to capturing the quiet rhythms of the natural world.

3. Textural Shimmer and Shifting Illumination

Take time to view the canvases from multiple angles. Subtle glossy paint passages interact with ceiling track lights, producing soft optical vibrations that transform as you step across the floor.

While exploring Seoul’s diverse exhibitions, international visitors may also appreciate our reviews of contemporary abstraction in Soonik Kwon: Mountains and Water at Whitestone Gallery and the historical retrospective Museum B1: The Next Section is Roger Ballen at Museum Hanmi.
