Choose your parade date
The 23rd Gwangju Chungjang Festival runs October 7–11, 2026, around Geumnam-ro, Chungjang-ro, May 18 Democracy Square and Art Street. This year’s theme is Songs of Memories. General viewing is listed as free; food purchases and individual paid activities are separate. Major parades do not follow the same timetable every day.
The key evening schedule
On October 9, the W World Parade runs 20:00–22:00 on Geumnam-ro. October 10 has the K Korea Parade at 17:00–19:00 and the O Original Parade at 19:00–22:00. On October 11, the Golden Parade is 18:00–20:00 between Geumnam-ro 4-ga and May 18 Democracy Square, followed by awards at 20:00–21:00. The opening event is October 7, 19:00–21:30, on the main stage. Save both the date and location when making travel reservations.

Arriving by train and subway
From Gwangju Songjeong railway station, use subway Line 1 toward the downtown festival area. Culture Complex (문화전당, former provincial office) is useful for the square; Geumnamno 4-ga (금남로4가) is another option for Geumnam-ro. Check the walk to your chosen viewing point rather than assuming every stage is beside the same exit. Street closures may limit crossings. Allow time to leave the crowd and return to the railway station, and check the operator’s timetable for your last suitable train.
Free parking has conditions
The official guide lists 17 parking locations with 1,168 spaces, including both free and discounted facilities. Dong-gu Office, 1 Seonam-ro, is listed as free throughout the festival. Honam-dong public parking, 365 Cheonbyeonu-ro, requires a parking-validation stamp from a festival information booth. Jungang Elementary School, 167 Jebong-ro, opens 17:00–23:00 on weekdays and 07:00–23:00 on weekends, then closes after 23:00. The on-street area behind Jeonnam Girls’ High School is free only on October 11. These arrangements do not guarantee a space.
A practical October 10 plan
Our suggested itinerary is an afternoon walk along Chungjang-ro, dinner before 17:00 and your chosen sections of the K and O parades. If staying until the final parade ends, consider a later return or overnight stay. No separate paid general-admission ticket is listed, but participatory activities may have registration notices. Prioritize return transport, accommodation and any activity applications. If adding the Gwangju Biennale, remember that it has a separate venue and ticket arrangements; allow a distinct visit slot.
