Introducing the exhibition But Some Day, One Day, Soon. Located in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, the Seoseoul Museum of Art offers a refreshingly distinct gallery experience. Exhibition Hall 3 on the first floor has been transformed into an open ‘Play Lounge’ format, inviting visitors to step away from rigid, one-way viewing paths and linger freely alongside the artworks.

Presented in this communal setting is artist Woosung Lee’s solo presentation, originally titled in Korean 《어쩌면 우리에게 더 멋진 일이 있을지도 몰라》 and officially known as But Some Day, One Day, Soon. Here, sequences of static drawings assemble into temporal motion, proposing an immersive environment where visitors can unwind comfortably and forge their own unhurried connections with the space.

How Still Waves Transformed into Moving Pictures

Throughout his career, artist Woosung Lee has explored the interplay between everyday life and visual art, closely observing ordinary routines, neighborhood figures, and surrounding environments. Building on this observational grounding, he has expanded his practice beyond traditional drawing into painting, animation, and multi-channel video installations.

The centerpiece of this presentation originated during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the artist revisited ocean video footage he had recorded in New Zealand in 2016. Placing sheets of transparent OHP film directly onto his laptop screen, Lee painstakingly traced every shifting movement of the water frame by frame.

Through this meticulous process, 1,969 individual drawings coalesced into a 6-minute, 32-second single-channel video animation depicting waves rhythmically rolling in and vanishing along the shore.

The work was originally introduced to the public during Lee’s solo exhibition of the same title at Doosan Gallery Seoul in March 2021. In the current Seoseoul Museum of Art Play Lounge presentation, the space is activated by three distinct works spanning video, sound, and painting.

Three Approaches to Engaging with Sound, Image, and Space

• Time Built from Countless Drawings: Observe how 1,969 individual, motionless images weave together seamlessly into the fluid rhythm of ocean waves. Experiencing still pictorial drawings gain momentum and temporal progression reveals the transformative potential of repetitive manual labor.
• The Dialogue of Piano Melody and Moving Image: The accompanying piano score was created when the artist shared the completed video with his longtime friend, composer and pianist Jahye Euh, asking for an impromptu performance. Because the video loop and musical composition differ in total duration, they continuously overlap and drift apart in fresh configurations with every replay.
• Relaxed Lingerings in the Play Lounge: Unlike conventional gallery spaces that require hushed formality and linear progression, this Play Lounge encourages open leisure. There is no prescribed itinerary; visitors are free to sit, rest, and enjoy the calming atmosphere at their own pace.

• Opening Hours: Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM; Weekends and public holidays (March–October) from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.
• Closed: Every Monday and January 1. However, if a scheduled holiday falls on a Monday, the museum opens normally.
• Docent Tours: Please note that no docent tours are operated for this presentation.
