Exploring Technology Environments and Visual Culture

Throughout his career, artist Kim Heecheon has produced works that critically question digital culture and the psychological impact of technological mediation. In 2023, he introduced his ‘Mental Series’, experimenting with the video game engine Unity as an innovative moving-image medium. Notable projects included the auto-playing game Cutter 3 (supported by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea) and Double Forger (supported by Hayward Gallery in London and Art Sonje Center in Seoul).

Continuing his artistic trajectory since 2023, this solo exhibition unveils three major new works created with production support from the Seoul Museum of Art: the interactive game Lemon, the moving-image work Dried, and the photographic series .dng.

1. Auto-Playing Game Series Driven by Real-Time Data

Constructed using the Unity game engine, this series operates autonomously through real-time inputs without requiring direct manual control from the audience. In the newly supported game Lemon, visitors witness a novel convergence between computational systems and cinematic visual syntax.

2. Four-Channel Video Created with Generative AI

The new moving-image work Dried (말린) is a 4-channel video installation realized through generative AI technologies. It explores near-future image ecologies while questioning how human perception shifts within automated digital landscapes.

3. Photographic Selection from Everyday Life Archives

The photographic work .dng features approximately 100 images selected from a personal smartphone archive of 5,841 photographs taken by the artist. Referencing the raw digital data file format in its title, the series reflects on the cross-sections of data and imagery accumulated throughout modern everyday life.

Admission to Kim Heecheon: Moles is free and does not require advance bookings. The galleries remain open until 8:00 PM on weekdays and until 7:00 PM on weekends and public holidays, with visitors required to enter at least 30 minutes prior to closing time.
