The Incheon Joseon Thinkers Exhibition looks beyond the city’s familiar open-port history. Until September 27, 2026, Incheon City Museum presents scholars, writers and thinkers associated with the region during the Joseon period. Admission is free.

A wider intellectual landscape
The exhibition includes connections to Ganghwa and Geomdan within present-day Incheon. Yi Hyeong-sang, Yun Dong-gyu, Jeong Je-du, Yi Gwang-sa and Sin Heum feature in its account. Consider relationships between people and places, rather than treating the visit as a list of biographies to memorize.
Writing beside everyday objects
Official material identifies 13 designated Treasures among the exhibits. Manuscripts by Yi Hyeong-sang appear alongside objects he used, including a geomungo, jade flute and sword. The contrast between written scholarship and personal belongings offers an approachable way into an unfamiliar historical figure.
Letters as individual voices
Yun Dong-gyu’s correspondence, glasses, identity tag and family ritual table help connect scholarly life with daily practice. Other material includes calligraphy by Yi Gwang-sa and writings by Yi Geon-chang. If you cannot read the original manuscripts, start with explanatory labels and look at handwriting, paper and traces of use.

The show ends September 27. Open 09:00–18:00, last entry 17:30; Mondays are normally closed except public holidays. The September 11 symposium has already finished.
