Bringing one of the most revered masterpieces of 19th-century romantic ballet to the stage, the Korean National Ballet Giselle will be performed from Tuesday, October 13 to Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater. Presented by the prestigious Korean National Ballet and supported by Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, KB Financial Group, and Montbest, this production highlights the company’s technical virtuosity, poetic storytelling, and dramatic emotional power in the heart of Seoul.

Staged in the renowned version by French choreographer Patrice Bart—former associate artistic director of the Paris Opera Ballet—the production honors the original choreography of Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot set to Adolphe Adam’s haunting score. The first act transports audiences to a picturesque autumn harvest village marked by youthful romance and devastating heartbreak, while the ethereal second act showcases the iconic Ballet Blanc of the ghostly Wilis in a moonlit forest cemetery.

In Act 2, the scene shifts to a desolate clearing in the forest where the Wilis—spirits of maiden brides betrayed before their wedding days—gather under the command of their merciless queen, Myrtha. Condemned to haunt the woods, the Wilis lure any man who enters into an inescapable dance of death until dawn. When Hilarion arrives at Giselle’s grave, he is forced into the fatal dance and perishes. Albrecht then visits the tomb bearing white lilies to mourn his lost love. Though ordered by Myrtha to destroy him, Giselle’s pure and enduring love defies death itself, shielding Albrecht through the grueling night until the morning church bells ring, banishing the spirits back to their graves and granting Albrecht redemption.
